Volcanic Eruptions!

In Auckland we live near many extinct volcanoes but would you know what to do if there was an active volcano nearby? Taeshell does!

A volcano is like a chimney in the earth there is magma inside but when it comes out we call it lava. It is also a moutain. Some volcanoes are active and some are not. The top of the volcano is called the crater. If a volcano erupts we have got to run away. Or if we can't get away that fast we have to get away from the lava and try not to get burnt. If there is a volcanic eruption nearby you need to listen to the radio so it can tell you what to do. If you are leaving your house you need to wear protective clothing and you also need to take your survival kit.

Your writing is very informative about volcanoes. You know a lot about what to do when there is an eruption. It is like you have experienced it.

Do you know if there are any volcanoes in the Manawatu?

Hi Tashell,
My name is Jillian LeRouge. I am studying to become an elementary teacher at The University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. You did a great job explaining volcanoes. We do not have any volcanoes near Alabama. The closest one to where I live is the Zuni-Bandera Volcanic Field in New Mexico; it hasn’t erupted in over 2,500 years and is over 1,300 miles away—that about a 24 hour drive in car. I’ve never traveled to a place that has volcanoes, but I would love to see the inside of one. I don’t know what it is like to have to worry about volcanoes erupting, but it sounds like you know what to do in case of an emergency. Great Job!
